Yesterday afternoon (Thursday) the engine in the rear compartment of a tour bus carrying senior citizens caught fire on Highway 71 south of Mel’s 7-71 truck stop and café. The seniors were safely evacuated. The bus is a total loss. The Blomkest Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

A rural Yellow Medicine County family of eleven has been displaced because of a house fire west of Hanley Falls. The fire happened early yesterday morning (Thursday) and the Chai Vue and Shoua Kong family, consisting of mom, dad, grandmother and eight children ranging from eleven months to 14 years old, safely escaped the burning home. The house was a total loss. There was no insurance on the house. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office along with the Hanley Falls Fire Department are in charge of the investigation.
